01What is GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)?
+
GEO is the practice of making a brand's content the source that AI assistants cite when they answer a question. Where classic SEO competes for a position in a list of ten blue links, GEO competes to be inside the answer itself — named, quoted or linked by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini or Copilot. The mechanics differ because these systems retrieve, synthesise and attribute rather than rank.
02How is GEO different from SEO?
+
SEO optimises for ranking a URL; GEO optimises for being retrieved and quoted. In practice that shifts the work in three ways. Structure matters more, because a model lifts self-contained passages rather than whole pages. Corroboration matters more, because models weigh agreement across independent sources before stating something as fact. And measurement changes entirely — you track share of answer and citation frequency across a prompt set, not just position for a keyword.
03Does SEO still matter if AI answers are taking over?
+
Yes, and more than the headlines suggest. Most generative engines ground their answers in live search results, so a page that cannot be crawled, rendered or trusted by a classic search index is usually invisible to the assistant too. Technical SEO is now the entry requirement for GEO rather than a separate discipline. The honest framing is that you need both scoreboards, and they move independently.
04How do you measure whether GEO is working?
+
We define a prompt set — typically 100 to 300 real buying questions in your category — and run it against each major assistant on a schedule. From that we report three numbers: share of answer (how often you are named), citation share (how often your domain is linked), and source gap (which competing domains get cited instead, and for which claims). Those sit alongside conventional rankings, non-branded organic revenue and assisted conversions from AI referral traffic.
05Can you actually influence what an AI says about my brand?
+
You can influence it, but you cannot control it, and any agency promising control is selling you something. What reliably moves the needle: making your own pages crawlable and quotable, ensuring your factual claims are consistent everywhere they appear, and earning corroboration on the independent sources those models already trust in your category. What does not work: keyword stuffing, prompt-injection tricks hidden in page text, or spun content at volume.
06How long before we see results?
+
Technical remediation shows up fastest — indexation and Core Web Vitals changes typically register within two to six weeks. Answer visibility moves on a slower clock, because models refresh their grounding sources and, for some surfaces, their training data on their own schedule; expect first movement around week six to ten and a meaningful trend by month four. Anyone quoting you a faster curve is describing an outlier, not a plan.
07Why a Shopify specialist rather than a generalist agency?
+
Because most of the technical ceiling on a Shopify store is platform-specific. Duplicate product paths under /collections/*/products/*, filter combinations that spawn thousands of crawlable URLs, theme JavaScript that delays the price into a second render pass, feed and schema disagreeing about the same offer — these are Shopify problems with Shopify fixes, shipped in Liquid. A generalist will find them eventually. We start there on day one.
