Best AI search apps for Shopify: Boost, Searchanise and Rebuy
A focused shortlist for Shopify onsite search and recommendations, with query tests, catalogue checks and the distinction between store search and SEO.
SEARCH.
Someone types “small bag for work” into your store. Your catalogue calls the relevant product a “commuter sling”. The gap between those two descriptions is where a search evaluation should start. A very polished search box still needs useful product information underneath it.
Three tools worth a closer look

Boost AI Search & Filter
Storefront search, filters and merchandising controls, with AI search and product recommendations described in its listing.
- OUR TAKE
- Start here when search and collection filters need to work together. Its documented merchandising controls make it a candidate for teams that need editorial control over product discovery.
- TEST THIS
- Build filters from meaningful product attributes. Check that an empty filter combination has a useful recovery route.
- COST CHECK
- Check current plan limits and the applicable pricing basis.

Searchanise
Instant storefront search and custom filters, with personalised AI search and merchandising features.
- OUR TAKE
- Include as a direct search-and-filter comparison using the same catalogue, queries and devices.
- TEST THIS
- Check how a misspelling, an exact SKU and a broad category query behave. Confirm which functionality is included in the selected plan.
- COST CHECK
- Check catalogue limits and which features the plan includes.

Rebuy
Product recommendations and merchandising across surfaces such as the cart, checkout and post-purchase journey.
- OUR TAKE
- Include when the project extends into recommendations and the cart journey. Define the surfaces first so you are comparing an equivalent scope.
- TEST THIS
- Keep irrelevant add-ons out of the experience. Check compatibility, availability and the combined commercial effect.
- COST CHECK
- Check the modules and Shopify-plan requirements you actually need.
Create a query set before you watch a demo
- Collect actual site-search phrases if available. Remove personal information.
- Add exact names, product types, use cases, materials and compatibility questions.
- Include misspellings, ambiguous terms and requests for items you do not sell.
- Write which products would be acceptable results for each phrase.
- Test desktop and mobile, then repeat in the relevant market and language.
A search tool should not receive credit for returning something when the thing is wrong. For a “waterproof work bag”, a water-resistant pouch may be a poor match. Where your catalogue cannot support the distinction, repair the attributes before expecting the search system to infer it.
Filters are a content model in disguise
Start with decisions a customer actually makes: size, capacity, fit, material or compatibility. A filter named after an internal purchasing code is unlikely to help a new visitor. Agree units and allowed values, fill the gaps and check products with multiple variants. This preparation can matter more than the difference between two demos.
| Measure | Record |
|---|---|
| Relevance | Acceptable results in the first visible set |
| Recovery | What happens after a zero-result query |
| Control | How staff fix an incorrect result |
| Mobile usability | Time and taps to narrow the catalogue |
| Commercial outcome | Search-assisted orders alongside returns and margin |
| Maintenance | Time to update attributes and merchandising rules |
A better search box does not create a Google landing page
Onsite search responds to someone already using the store. SEO also requires useful, accessible destination pages for people arriving from outside it. Decide which buying intents deserve an actual collection page with stable internal links and useful text. Do not assume every search result or filter combination should be indexed.
Likewise, an AI recommendation feature does not guarantee that an external assistant will cite your brand. Use separate measurements for internal search behaviour, organic landing-page visits and identifiable AI referrals. Keeping the surfaces separate makes improvements easier to interpret.
